PR Is PR by Any Name

Regarding your reporting on my comments on public relations in Japan (“What’s Japanese for PR? Nothing” on Dec. 5) I believe it necessary to clarify an important point in the interest of accuracy.
The headline itself is misleading. There is no direct Japanese translation of PR in terms of meaning and nuance. But aside from language, the concept of public relations and professional sophistication in its application, are gaining headway among a major portion of the Japanese business community.
The most effective translation of PR into Japanese is what is happening--the increasing practice of, and dedication to, good corporate citizenship among the business leaders of my country.
