A toxic chemical fire at a Jamestown gold mine in the Mother Lode country injured 29 people and caused $200,000 in damage to a processing mill. Most of the victims suffered smoke inhalation or skin irritation and were released after treatment at medical centers. More than 200 workers were evacuated from the Sonora Mining Co.’s open-pit mine when wiring ignited an extraction tank.
