Two-time Olympic decathlon gold medalist Daley Thompson and Kim Hagger, both of Britain, finished third in a special team indoor pentathlon competition, Sunday, at Paris.
The French team of Christian Plaziat and Nadine Debois finished first with 9,037 points.
Men and women from four countries competed in five events, the 60-meter high hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump and 600-meter run.
In the individual men’s competition, Thompson was fourth behind Plaziat, France’s Alain Blondel and West Germany’s Siegfried Wentz.
Thompson, 27, managed only 23-4 3/4 inches in the long jump, well off the 26-3 1/2 he jumped while winning the decathlon gold medal at the 1984 Olympics. He had a poor 6-4 in the high jump.
“I had a good time,” Thompson said. “When you’re my age, you come to realize you can’t win them all but you do win the right ones.”
