Trucks Deliver Water as London Faces Drought

About 40 tanker trucks spread out over London on Thursday to supply water to homes and hospitals where pipes burst during last week’s freezing weather, officials said.

The Thames Water Authority urged its 11.5 million London customers to conserve water after three reservoirs ran dry Wednesday night, reducing water pressure and leaving some parts of the capital temporarily without water.

“Today we seem to be holding our own,” said authority spokeswoman Leonie Turner. “But if people start hosing their cars and that sort of thing, obviously the situation will become serious and we could run out of water.”
