Dr. Robert Gale, the UCLA bone marrow transplant specialist who treated victims of last year’s Chernobyl nuclear accident, returned to the Soviet Union to check on his patients’ recovery. Gale said in Moscow that he planned to fly today to Kiev, 60 miles south of Chernobyl, and that he will visit the site of the reactor Monday.
