Psychologist and author Leonard Felder of Santa Monica has been named a recipient of the 1987 Distinguished Merit Citation by the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Felder is being honored for his work in improving religious understanding and for his leadership in the Brotherhood/Sisterhood program for Los Angeles teen-agers. A dinner for Felder will be held Feb. 17 at Wilshire Boulevard Temple, 3663 Wilshire Blvd.

Thomas J. Wafer Jr. and Sister Rosalie Mahoney have been appointed to the board of directors of St. John’s Hospital and Health Center. Wafer is general manager of the Copley Los Angeles Newspapers, which owns the Outlook in Santa Monica, the Daily Breeze in Torrance and the News-Pilot in San Pedro.

Mahoney serves on the board of trustees for the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health Services Corp. in Leavenworth, Kan.

Gilbert and Ruth Ross of Beverly Hills have been honored by the West Coast Friends of Ponevez Yeshiva and Israel’s Children’s Villages, which they have supported for three decades.

William G. Ouchi of Santa Monica has been named co-chairman of the 1986-1987 United Way corporate campaign cabinet by Chairman David E. Anderson. Ouchi is a professor of the Graduate School of Management at UCLA. He is also the author of three management books and has won awards for his book, “Theory Z.”

Five former Beverly Hills mayors have been named honorary co-chairmen of the Friends of Greystone, according to Fred Nicholas, chairman of the Greystone Foundation. They are: Leonard Horwin, A. Fredric Leopold, Benjamin Norton Jr., Edward I. Brown and Dr. Charles Aronberg. Nicholas said the Friends of Greystone will mobilize community support for the preservation of the mansion and grounds.

Jane Zuckerman has been appointed early-childhood director at Temple Israel of Hollywood, 7300 Hollywood Blvd. She has been an instructor at Los Angeles City College and the director of the college’s Campus Child Development Center Laboratory School.

Richard B. Graff will be honored by the Shaare Zedek Medical Center Jerusalem on Feb. 8 at the Beverly Hilton. Graff, president of MGM/UA Distribution Co., is being honored for his efforts to staff and equip a cardiac surgical unit at the medical center.

Herb Glaser has been named western area chairman of the board of directors for American Associates, a support group for Ben-Gurion University in Israel. Herman Jacobs is co-chairman. Glaser is a real estate attorney and Jacobs is on the board of directors of First Federal Savings Bank of California.

The Rev. Michael Beckwith has opened the Agape Church of Religious Science at 3017 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, which is part of the United Church of Religious Science. Beckwith lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Celeste, a teacher; and his two children, Kiilu, 16, and Michela, 7. Beckwith holds a ministerial degree from the Institute of Religious Science and also attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga., and USC.

Rabbi Jacob Pressman has been honored by the University of Judaism for his service as pastor, teacher and organizer. Pressman, a special assistant to university President Dr. David Lieber, helped found the school. He holds two honorary degrees from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and the University of Judaism.

Raymond T. Weaver of Santa Monica has been reappointed to the county Beach Advisory Committee by Supervisor Deane Dana. Weaver, a business and financial consultant, was a performer and director in television, films and theater for 14 years. He is a member of the Actors Equity Assn., Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce.

Harold Demsetz, director of UCLA’s undergraduate program for business and economics, has been appointed to the Arthur Andersen & Co. Alumni Chair in business economics at UCLA, which was established in December, 1985, with a $500,000 endowment. Demsetz has been a professor of economics at the university since 1971 and former department chairman.
