Oral Roberts and God’s ‘Threat’
A few years ago Oral Roberts said a 900-foot tall Jesus told him to tell each member of his flock to send him $242 to help finish his hospital in Tulsa.
Now, Oral tells his sheep that this same God told him to tell them to keep sending him money until he receives 4 million bucks for his medical students. If he does not receive this amount by March, he tells them, then this God will kill him!
Nice God!
It shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who watches these televangelists in action why scoundrels like Oral can take these kinds of liberties on the minds of his followers. Just look into the eyes of these people as the camera scans by them. You will see a glassy look--the same look you will see from members of the various other cult/religions that specialize in mind control.
For more than a century now, these fundamentalist evangelists have raped the minds of millions of people with their fear and guilt-producing authoritarian mind-set.
But all hope is not lost for these people. Just like Alcoholic Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, etc. there is now an organization called Fundamentalists Anonymous (Times article, July 3, 1986).
