China Orders U.S. Reporter Out
The Foreign Ministry today ordered Agence France-Presse to transfer from China an American reporter accused by the government of accepting intelligence information from a Chinese student.
The official New China News Agency announced the order for the removal of AFP reporter Lawrence MacDonald, 32, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., “as soon as possible.” The action came amid a major campaign against Westernization and appeared linked to government criticisms of the Western press for its reporting on China’s political situation.
