A parcel bomb ripped through a farm supplies shop in Pamplona, Spain, killing the owner and injuring his wife and six other people, officials said. The dead man, Javier Birrum, had no known political affiliation, and no group immediately took responsibility for the blast. Police sources said the attack could be the work of the Basque separatist organization ETA (Basque Homeland and Freedom), which has carried out attacks on businessmen who refuse to pay a so-called “revolutionary tax” to support the organization’s campaign to secure independence for the Basque region.
