Cuban dissident Ricardo Bofill left the French Embassy in Havana after taking refuge there last Aug. 27, a spokesman for the Ministry for External Relations said in Paris. Bofill, 53, left the embassy “on his own will,” the spokesman said. The spokesman said contacts with the Cuban government have convinced Paris that Bofill “will not be harassed after leaving the embassy . . . .” Bofill had sought shelter in the embassy after the arrest of members of a human rights group, which had accused the Cuban government of rights violations.
