President’s State of Union

If anything can be termed as a throwback to the 1960s and 1970s mentality, it definitely is your editorial (Jan. 28), “An Uncertain Future.”

What planet do you live on? Has your editorial board suffered an amnesia spell and thinks we are once again a defenseless, whimpering, tormented nation paying tributes to the lurid welfare deity, while around us Soviet and Cuban armored columns thrust into powerless Third World countries?

Wake up! Our nation has a great and strong-willed President who has brought America back from the pitiful state of affairs and minds. It is you who should not give us dusty old speeches, just look around you at the healthy economy and overall confidence.

The President has courage and moral strength to admit a mistake. You do not possess either, and refuse to admit that the year now is 1987, not 1978.

As for Nicaragua, if anything is wrong-footed, it is your relentless dislike of the “Freedom Fighters” and their cause of fighting to overthrow a pro-Soviet fascist regime.

Steady as she goes, Mr. President.
