Marty Robbins’ “A Lifetime of Song/1951-1982.” Columbia (AAD). Robbins was one of the most successful and distinctive singers in country music, though he leaned more toward a soft vocal purity than the soulful intensity of a George Jones. Rather than just offer the late singer’s 20 biggest hits, Columbia has omitted a few of the hits to better showcase the wide range of the artist’s work. The hour set moves from early rockabilly experimentation (a remake of Elvis’ “That’s All Right) to teen-oriented country-pop (“A White Sport Coat”) to the trademark Western narratives (“El Paso”’). Sound quality: good. 1/2
