Local News in Brief : Limits on Residences in Sherman Oaks OKd
The Los Angeles City Council gave final approval Tuesday to one-year restrictions on residential development in a Sherman Oaks neighborhood.
The measure, proposed by Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky, was adopted on a 9-1 vote and sent to Mayor Tom Bradley, who is expected to sign it. Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores cast the dissenting vote. Councilmen Robert Farrell, John Ferraro and Gilbert Lindsay were absent. Two seats are vacant.
Supported by a Sherman Oaks neighborhood group but opposed by developers, the restrictions will affect the area south of Ventura Boulevard and east of the San Diego Freeway. Construction will be limited to roughly half the apartments and condominiums now allowed.
The measure will not take effect for 30 days after Bradley signs it, but its restrictions will apply to all projects in which the developers did not submit building plans by Jan. 8.
