Infant Taken From Mother; Woman Sought
Los Angeles Police were seeking a woman believed to have kidnaped a 2-week-old child from the lobby of the pediatric center at County-USC Medical Center.
Detective Jerry Mestaf said that Ampelia Pacheco, 32, told officers that a woman befriended her while she was waiting Monday afternoon with her son, Elias Monroy Jr. After about an hour, the woman offered to watch the baby while Pacheco went to search for formula to feed the infant. When the mother returned, the baby and woman were gone.
The woman being sought was Latino, about 32, with light-colored, frosted hair, and was wearing a yellow blouse, Mestaf said. The boy weighs about 9 pounds and is about 20 inches long. He was wrapped in a cream-colored blanket.
