Volkswagen U.S., partially filling a vacancy left when Chrysler withdrew its ads from ABC’s coming “Amerika” miniseries, has bought air time on the miniseries for a dozen 30-second commercials, ABC said Monday. ABC declined to say how much Volkswagen paid for air time on “Amerika,” but a source said the network gave a the company only a “minimal discount” from the $175,000 that ABC had been charging for commercials. Chrysler bought time for 36 ads for what one source said was about $5.5 million. “Amerika” is to start its seven-day run on Sunday. ABC said it expects that the show will be fully sponsored by opening night.
