170 Are Charged After South Korean Protests

SEOUL, South Korea —
Prosecutors announced formal felony charges Monday against 40 people and sent 130 others to court on misdemeanor charges, all arising out of violent weekend protests over the killing of a university student by police.
Several hundred other people were freed, officials said.
