Henry Rono, world record-holding distance runner, appeared in municipal court in North Bergen, N.J., to answer a charge of cheating a bank teller in a money transaction, but action was delayed when the prosecutor said he would try to consolidate the case with three other similar charges.
Rono, a native of Kenya who set four world records within 90 days in 1978, has battled a drinking problem as well as charges that he stole money from four bank branches by deceiving tellers. Rono allegedly cheated each bank out of about $300.
