$4.4-Million India Bank Heist
Sikhs posing as policemen today robbed a government-run bank of $4.4 million, the most money ever stolen from a bank in India, police said. More than 10,000 security troops were deployed across Punjab state after the robbery.
Police sources said about 15 Sikhs, including five wearing police uniforms, entered the main Punjab National Bank branch in Ludhiana and demanded to inspect the premises. One told bank security guards that he was there to inspect them and marched them out of the bank, locking them in a van while the other Sikhs filled bags with money.
