Digital Tapes

Instead of trying to “protect” the domestic recording industry from competition posed by digital technology developed in Japan, Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) and his friends in the Reagan Administration ought to concentrate on getting electronics firms here in the United States to design and manufacture their own digital tape recorders.
Why penalize consumers for the failure of American industry to enter yet another race for technological innovation? There is no justifiable reason for Congress to deny people access to digital audio tapes for home recording.
