‘Getting Stuck’

Share

As a retired postal clerk, I just cannot let your editorial (Feb. 6), “Getting Stuck,” pass without comment.

The U.S. Postal Service has spent thousands (maybe millions) of dollars to develop the mucilage it applies to postage stamps. In the many years that I sold and applied stamps, I never once came across a stamp that wouldn’t stick, if it was moistened properly.

You could spend an unlimited amount of money to develop a mucilage but it would be of no use to the person that wiped or washed it all off the stamp, either with the tongue or with an overly wet sponge.

Any postage stamp will stick firmly if the mucilage is moistened and not removed.
