Iraq said its warplanes bombed a command center in a Tehran suburb and 11 other Iranian cities, the day after a missile exploded in Baghdad. Iran said it retaliated by firing a surface-to-surface missile into Basra, Iraq’s embattled southern city, and struck five other cities with air and artillery attacks. A communique issued in Baghdad said Iraqi warplanes scored “destructive hits” on what it described as an Iranian command center in the Tehran suburb of Karaj. Iran said Karaj was bombed but gave no details. The bombing raid on Tehran was Iraq’s sixth attack in 48 hours on Iran’s capital.
