Suspected drug overlord Carlos Lehder was secretly moved for security reasons to another jail, where he was expected to complete arrangements for private defense attorneys whose bill could top $2 million. Lehder’s interim attorney would not say exactly where his client was but indicated it could be outside Florida, though within the United States. Lehder, 37, pleaded not guilty Monday to a federal indictment filed in Jacksonville that charges him with smuggling 4.4 tons of cocaine into the United States. A separate indictment from Miami charges him with heading a ring that supplied 80% of the cocaine used in the country.
