Middle-aged men with certain heartbeat irregularities are more than twice as likely to die of heart disease as women with the disorder, though it is more common among women, an American Heart Assn. survey issued in Dallas said. Based on electrocardiograms given to 17,000 people and an 11 1/2-year follow-up, middle-aged people whose hearts produce unusually low electrical activity recycling for their next beat, were found to be at greater risk of death from heart disease, the study said, “but this finding was much more prominent in men than in women.”
