The Death of Carl Rogers

Share

It’s ironic that on the same day one can find a report on the emerging self-esteem bill authored by Assemblyman Joan Vasconcellos (D-Santa Clara), we are also informed of the death of Dr. Carl Rogers, one of the most influential seers of the self-esteem movement and one of my most precious heroes.

Dr. Rogers embodied the very best in a human being for he shared himself, his ideas and his total persona with the world. His message was: Take very good care of yourself; be gentle to yourself; treat yourself with patience and understanding.

And in these days of drug abuse, suicide and despair, Rogers’ words mean so much. That the legislation authored by Vasconcellos is finally getting off the ground will surely bring comfort to Dr. Rogers as he is laid to rest.

As far as I am concerned, Dr. Rogers’ first name really should have been “Buck,” for he was so many light years ahead of his time.
