Outgoing Los Angeles Harbor Commissioner Michael Schwab, under federal investigation for allegedly misappropriating funds at the union local where he works, has been removed as business manager and recording secretary of the local. Members of the Wilmington-based Pile Drivers Local 2375 voted to oust Schwab and the local’s financial secretary after a union investigation found that the two officials had violated union rules in handling a $9,000 grievance settlement paid to the local in 1985. Schwab, who has denied any wrongdoing, resigned two weeks ago from the Harbor Commission at the request of Mayor Tom Bradley, although he has remained on the panel while Bradley searches for a replacement.
