Canada plans to drop retaliatory tariffs imposed last June on U.S. books, computer parts and Christmas trees, Finance Minister Michael Wilson announced as he delivered the proposed 1987-88 budget to Parliament. The $92-billion budget, with an expected $22-billion deficit, is assured of parliamentary approval. The tariffs were Canada’s response to the imposition of a 35% U.S. duty on Canadian cedar shakes and shingles. Wilson said that Canada had held its market share of the shake and shingle market in the United States despite tariff-inflated prices.
