Gillette Co. reported a loss of $124.3 million for the fourth quarter of 1986 because of a costly restructuring prompted by a unsuccessful takeover attempt by Revlon Group. A year earlier, Boston-based Gillette posted a $32.9-million profit. Fourth-quarter revenue rose 18%. Without a charge totaling $243 million, earnings for the period would have been 4% higher than a year earlier, Gillette said. The loss also depressed earnings for the year by 90% to $15.8 million, compared to $159.9 million in 1985.
