SATURDAY LETTERS : LONG, LONG LIVE ‘AMERIKA’

Share

While watching “Amerika,” I realized how shallow and trivial the reviews I read were. Nothing of the complexity and substance of “Amerika” was hinted at.

Instead I saw complaints of implausibility and of harm to U.S.-Soviet relations. But all works of science fiction have at their core some implausible device, setting or concept.

As for U.S.-Soviet relations, anything that helps Americans understand the reality, and not simply the rhetoric, of the Soviet Union and its history will help put U.S.-Soviet relations on a sounder, more realistic basis.
