WAVING GOODBY

Share

If 94.7 KTWV, the WAVE (formerly KMET, the Mighty MET), is, in general manager Howard Bloom’s words (Feb. 15) “sensual, hypnotic and invigorating--everything that makes you feel good,” then at 25 I must be vastly and frighteningly abnormal, because I find their new baby nauseating, empty-headed and soulless: everything that makes me cry for the future of L.A. radio.

This demographic wonder-child doesn’t possess a shred of news or community involvement programming, but by far the worse sin on its young soul is the lack of spontaneous, live, human voices a thinking mind can connect with.

Without knowing it, Bloom and program director Frank Cody have finally succeeded in creating the all-illusive epitome of yuppie radio; an unattached, unconcerned, money oriented, slick sound, all tied up with pretty packaging that’s going to look real nice on billboards. Hoorah.

While Bloom, Cody and Metropolitan Broadcasting are spouting blissed-out, rhapsodic gurgles about their new creation, I’ll be praying to the great God Rock to deliver them from mass research, broad appeal and demographics. Please God Rock, let this be a phase they’re going through.
