A storm system over the Gulf Coast region spewed rain and strong thunderstorms from Texas eastward, and a cold front around the Great Lakes brought some light snow to the upper Midwest. A band of thunderstorms in the South spread rain in the morning from Oklahoma and eastern Texas across the lower Mississippi and Tennessee valleys to Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas. A tornado watch was posted for portions of the Florida Panhandle. Two inches of rain fell in Mary Esther, Fla., and Biloxi, Miss., picked up 1.90 inches. Hail was reported at Huntsville in eastern Texas and near Jonesboro, La., and Monroe, La.
