“Terminal Tower.” Pere Ubu. Twin/Tone (AAD). “Monster Walks the Winter Lake.” David Thomas. Twin/Tone (ADD). The Ubu album contains rare--but not always prime--tracks from the pioneering industrial-rockers, most of it from before their 1978 debut LP “The Modern Dance.” Even in its rough, formative stages, the Clevelanders’ invigorating sonic surrealism is worthwhile, and the package contains informative and flavorful liner notes (it doesn’t, however, include the valuable lyric sheet that comes in the vinyl version). Ubu’s singer David Thomas, meantime, has become a kind of avant-pop Dr. Seuss. The eccentric whimsy and the rich synthesizer-and-strings cabaret arrangements of his latest LP are enhanced by the CD sound and presence. Pere Ubu Thomas
