Protest Fails to Stop Forced Sale of Farm
Hundreds of people gathered outside the Shelby County courthouse Monday and hooted and banged on pots and pans to protest the forced sale of a family farm, but the demonstration did not stop the auction.
Police arrested 19 of the protesters, including five clergymen and a nun, and charged them with interference with official acts. The owners of the farm, Dominic and Ida Lickteig of rural Defiance, could not pay their debt to the Northern Bank of Omaha, Neb. The bank was the sole bidder on the property.
