The Sockers sold veteran forward Ade Coker to St. Louis and signed midfielder Paul Dougherty from their reserve team Tuesday.

Coker, 32, had been a member of the Sockers’ indoor championship teams for the past five seasons. But this season he played a limited role, scoring eight goals and making five assists in 20 games. In his five-plus seasons, Coker had 113 goals and 52 assists.

St. Louis has extended his contract through the end of next season.

“Ade should help St. Louis immeasurably,” Coach Ron Newman said. “He has made tremendous contributions to the San Diego Sockers both on and off the field, and we wish him nothing but the best.”

Dougherty, 20, began playing with Wolverhampton of the English League at age 15. He played four seasons in England before coming to San Diego at his own expense to try out with the Sockers.

“He has good skills and is anxious to play,” Newman said. “Paul should contribute to the Sockers for many years to come.”
