Seven leading members of the Czechoslovak Jazz Section--an independent cultural group and body of government critics--are to stand trial in Prague March 10-12, the group’s legal adviser said Wednesday. Josef Prusa told Reuters that the seven--chairman Karel Srp, secretary Vladimir Kouril, Vlastimil Drda, Milos Drda, Cestmir Hunat, Josef Skalnik and Tomas Krivanek--would face charges of illegal commercial activities and of issuing publication for profit since 1985, a crime punishable under Czech law by up to eight years in jail. The seven were arrested last September during a government clampdown on subversive activities.
