HUNTINGTON PARK : Police Reach Out to Latinos
The Police Department has launched a public relations program to reach the city’s large number of Spanish-speaking residents, who make up 85% of the population.
The Latino Affairs Program will revolve around John Aldecoa, a 12-year bilingual veteran of the department, who will be responsible for Latino community relations and media relations. The position was created to deflect criticism against the department, which has been the target of numerous lawsuits alleging brutality. The district attorney’s office is investigating at least three allegations of brutality.
