Pacific 10 Roundup : Stanford Beats Arizona St. in Overtime

Forward Eric Reveno scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Stanford to a 97-92 overtime victory over Arizona State in a Pacific 10 basketball game Saturday at Stanford.

Stanford (15-12 overall, 9-9 in the Pac-10) finished sixth in the conference and earned a first-round bye in next weekend’s tournament at UCLA. The Cardinal will play the third-place team, either Oregon State or California, Friday. Arizona State (10-16, 6-12) will play Washington State in the first round Thursday.

The Cardinal scored the first six points in overtime on field goals by Howard Wright and Todd Lichti, plus two free throws by Reveno.

Sun Devil guard Steve Beck led all scorers with 33 points and sent the game into overtime at 85-85 when he made one of his nine three-point baskets with 11 seconds left.

Washington State 79, Oregon 65--The Cougars ended their season 10-17 overall and 6-10 in the Pac-10 by beating the Ducks (14-13, 8-10) at Pullman, Wash.

Washington State Coach Len Stevens said his team took advantage of a hole in Oregon’s defense. “When they extend their defense out, if we cut through the middle, that’s where the action is,” he said. “We moved the ball very well today.”

Oregon Coach Don Monson said: “We just didn’t play aggressively. We weren’t assertive. We stood around and got outhustled, and I don’t have the answers why.”

Brian Quinnett scored 25 points to lead the Cougars.
