Culver City : Teachers Picket School Board

Share

More than 100 teachers picketed the Culver City Board of Education meeting, protesting the failure of the Culver City Unified School District to resolve a contract dispute over pay increases.

Diane Kaiser, president of the Culver City Federation of Teachers, said the union, which is negotiating for the district’s 250 teachers, set up the picket lines to “put some pressure on the board to offer us a decent salary agreement.”

The union has asked that teachers be given salary increases ranging from 6.5% to 10%. The district has offered a 6.5% pay increase. A Culver City teacher with five years experience earns $23,600 a year.

Both sides have postponed talks until the results of a state fact-finder’s report are made public.
