Raiders Say Plunkett Underwent Surgery on Shoulder Last Week

Share

The Raiders announced Thursday that 39-year-old Jim Plunkett underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right rotator cuff a week ago in Palo Alto.

Plunkett was reported to have left the hospital the same day and to have begun rehabilitation work. A team spokesman described the operation as a relatively minor one, involving “shaving some muscle fibers.”

Plunkett started the final six games of the season. He is thought to have been replaced as No. 1 on the depth chart by Rusty Hilger, but has said he wants to return.

The Raiders have not said whether they will invite him back but Thursday the spokesman said that Plunkett will attend this month’s quarterback camp, although he won’t participate in the physical workouts.

The Raiders also have Marc Wilson, the former No. 1, and have signed two free agents, Bruce Mathison and Ed Luther.
