A call for an audit of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s procurement approval processes by the state auditor general was made by Assemblywoman Marian LaFollette (R-Northridge). LaFollette said that allegations of a $500,000 supplies theft ring among school custodial personnel have fortified suspicions that the school district is not protecting itself adequately against such losses. It is up to the Joint Legislative Audit Committee to decide whether to order the auditor general to accede to LaFollette’s request. Seven people have been charged in the Los Angeles County district attorney’s investigation of the alleged theft ring.
