South Africa has recalled its naval attache from Washington, fearing that he would be expelled by the United States over his involvement in the purchase of U.S. military manuals, a State Department official said today.

Capt. Nicolas Vorster left Washington several days ago as a federal grand jury in Los Angeles indicted George MacArthur Posey, owner of an aeronautical company, on charges of violating the Anti-Apartheid Act, which bans the sale of military-related items to South Africa, said the official, who demanded anonymity.
