Pac-10 Tournament Didn’t Exactly Leave Fans Calling for More

The Pac-10 Conference playoffs were, at best, chaos. The conference is too big even to have playoffs since the playoffs foul up the regular season. But 10 teams in the playoffs is too much. Making two teams play on three straight nights is madness.

The scheduling this year was idiotic. UCLA, the home team, has to be the tournament’s biggest draw, yet its first game was scheduled on a Friday afternoon, when many cannot attend, instead of Friday night, when parking is available and when there is some incentive for TV coverage.

Then, there was complete confusion as to when UCLA would play on Saturday. Many of us missed that game because there was misinformation about whether it would be played at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. I was even told by the athletic director’s office that the game would be televised. Wrong game.

As a result of the poor scheduling and confusion, none of the games was well attended and television coverage was abysmal. The Pac-10 looked like a bunch of boobs, especially the two teams in the finals who were so exhausted they played terrible basketball, which didn’t help the conference’s reputation.
