Shock Radio??? Shock Radio is just the most obvious example of how low the standards of American contemporary radio have sunk (“Shock Radio,” by Patrick Goldstein, Feb. 22).

As a broadcaster with quite a few years of local experience, I’d like to offer the opinion that L.A. radio just about leads the way in setting new lows. This used to be a great market for Top 40 and AOR stations. KHJ, KRLA, KMET, KPPC, Morgan, Steele, the Rabbit, B.M.R., Mintz and on and on. Class, integrity, honesty.

But today in L.A., you’ve got rock jocks giving their political views, jocks whose future careers have been in poor taste, jocks with tremendous egos and virtually no talent, classic here, classic there, 10 in a row, no repeat days, insincerity, zero creativity, boring bad radio. And then you have the Wave (KTWV-FM)? Thank God for the few exceptions.

I feel sorry for the younger broadcasters of today. When I was coming up, finding role models was as easy as turning the dial.
