Sigrid Wolf of Austria won her second consecutive World Cup downhill race, but the season’s downhill championship went to Michela Figini of Switzerland at Vail, Colo.

Defending downhill champion Maria Walliser of Switzerland appeared to have clinched the title when she had the second fastest time in Saturday’s race and Figini finished out of the top 15.

But Wolf, for the second day in a row, came from the 16th position to the fastest time of 1:52.30, bumping Walliser (1:53.66) into third place behind Canada’s Laurie Graham (1:53.47.)

Walliser’s third-place finish gave her 90 points in the World Cup downhill standings to 93 for Figini and 86 for Graham.

Walliser also failed to overtake teammate Vreni Schneider in the overall World Cup standings. Schneider picked up six points with her 10th place Saturday and padded her lead over Walliser in the overall, 247-239.
