Investigators seeking the cause of the capsizing of a British ferry off Belgium, with at least 134 deaths, may find the answer in a recorder on the ship’s bridge, the Sunday Times of London reported. The paper said that the device, similar to an airliner’s “black box,” automatically logged the ferry’s last movements, including variations in the pitch of the propellers and the speed of the ship, the Herald of Free Enterprise of the Townsend Thoresen line. These records are now in a rubber-sealed metal case on the chart table on the submerged port side of the bridge, the report added.
