A stubborn storm system that dumped up to 30 inches of snow in Utah unleashed more snow and strong winds from the Rockies to the Dakotas today while dousing the central and southern Plains with heavy rain.

The slow-moving storm drenched sections from Texas and Oklahoma through the lower Mississippi Valley with as much as three inches of rain by midday. In the Northeast, snow blanketed parts of northern New England and eastern New York, with higher elevations of Vermont and Maine picking up nine inches since Monday.
