City officials and community leaders will break ground at 10:30 a.m. Friday for the new Wilmington Boys’ and Girls’ Club building at 1444 West Q St. on property leased from the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.

The $1.2-million clubhouse will include a gymnasium, weight room, computer learning center, locker rooms, offices and a library. Dennis Lord of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce said the club is still seeking sponsors for individual rooms in the 18,000-square-foot building, as well as for game tables, scoreboards and other equipment.
