The State Department denounced Thai officials for pushing Laotian refugees back into Laos, calling it a “serious breach of human rights.” A Thai military spokesman said 32 Hmong tribesmen from Communist Laos were evicted from a refugee camp Sunday because “we considered them not to be refugees.” Refugee officials put the number at 38 and said they were trucked back to the Laos border. Another 97 Hmong were reported returned to Laos in another incident. The United States is concerned about the Hmong because they helped U.S. forces in the Vietnam War.
