POPPING BACK : FANS FUME, OTHERS CHEER BRUCE BLAST

Share

In the Popping Off column in the March 15 Calendar, Kristine McKenna aired her negative views on the Bruce Springsteen phenomenon. Here’s a sample of the heavy reader response, which ran roughly 60% to 40% against McKenna’s opinion.

For too long, Springsteen, the overrated alleged voice of middle-class America, has been hailed as the last word in stateside rock ‘n’ roll.

My thanks go out to McKenna, for possessing the obvious sales talent to goad the rest of the Calendar staff into allowing this attack on the popular patron saint of mundane pop rock music to be printed.

Springsteen is yet another American Celebrity with virtually no talent. He is a pop music equivalent to Victoria Principal or Ed McMahon. The message of young middle-class frustration has been sung better, and with more honesty, by everyone from Hank Williams Jr. to Aerosmith. And still the man can sell albums. Give me a break.

One further question. Where can I get a T-shirt with the “Ban Bruce” logo on it?
