“Crimes of the Heart.” Dove/Newman (two cassettes, abridged). There is nothing modest about this recorded version of Beth Henley’s prize-winning play that subsequently became a film. Among other things, it claims to be the first to incorporate selections from a motion picture sound track in the reading. If that weren’t enough to unbalance Amy Irving’s prosaic reading, the listener is exposed to a bevy of actresses, interestingly described in the publicity as “motion picture stars Diane Keaton, Jessica Lange and Sissy Spacek, narrator Amy Irving and producer/director Deborah Raffin.” Too many stars blur this galaxy.
