Blake Edwards’ “Blind Date,” a slapstick comedy about a man who plies his blind date with drinks and watches her turn into a social monster, jumped off to a $7.5-million opening weekend. The movie, which marks the feature film debut of TV’s “Moonlighting” star Bruce Willis, opened on 1,251 screens across the country and averaged $6,020 per screen. “Lethal Weapon,” the Mel Gibson/Danny Glover urban shoot-em-up that had been No. 1 for the last three weeks, held on to the second spot, grossing $5 million from 1,420 theaters. “Platoon,” No. 3 on the list, cleared the $100-million gross mark, taking in another $3.9 million on Oscar-eve weekend. The next three top-grossing films for the weekend were “Tin Men,” “Burglar” and “Nightmare on Elm Street 3.” On the basis of per-screen average, the nation’s hottest movie continues be “Raising Arizona,” which grossed $1.1 million from just 149 theaters.
